Skoda Reduces Its Production

Skoda announced three days ago that it’s reducing the automobile production until the end of the year, which means that they will make 31,000 vehicles less, decrease caused by a smaller demand.

After an initial decrease in production of 13,000 vehicles, announced at the beginning of October, the Czech group announced another cut back of 18,000 vehicles, as mentioned by their spoke person, Jaroslav Cerny.

Skoda Auto was planning to produce 759,000 vehicles this year, compared with the 661,000 made in 2007. Even though the production will be reduced, Skoda will still see a 10% growth compared with 2007.

2009 Skoda Superb Gets 5 Stars At Euro-NCAP Safety Tests

As the title says, the 2009 Skoda Superb got 5 stars at the safety tests from Euro-NCAP, getting 35 points at adult protection and 40 for child protection. What’s special about it and the reason behind the high score is the knee airbags.

Skoda Yeti SUV To Be Launched In 2009

One of the six models that Skoda wants to release by the end of 2010 is the Skoda Yeti SUV, due to be launched in 2009. Some of these models will be new and others will be new generations of current ones.

As for the Skoda Yeti, we don’t know many details right now, just rumours. While people might think that it will be based on the Tiguan platform, it seems that it will use only the four wheel drive system, and borrow from other platforms as well. It will not be as big as the Tiguan and it will probably compete with cars such as Nissan Qashqai and Suzuki Jimny.

The New Skoda Superb Launched At Geneva 2008

The new Skoda Superb was just launched at the Geneva Auto Show, the 2008th edition. It comes with a large interior and a luggage space of 565 liters. Some of it’s features include touch-screen navigation, 9 airbags, bi-xenon headlamps and parking assistant.

These are the engines that come with the new Skoda Superb:

Petrol:
- 1.4 liter TSI - 126 hp/92 kW
- 1.8 TSI - 161 hp/118 kW, also 4×4 and AT
- 3.6 FSI V6 - 261 hp/191 kW 4×4 AT

Diesel:
- 1.9 TDI PD DPF - 105 hp/77 kW, also without DPF
- 2.0 TDI PD DPF - 141 hp/103 kW, also AT
- 2.0 TDI CR DPF - 171 hp/125 kW, also 4×4 and AT

2 Millionth Skoda Octavia Produced

Two days ago, the Skoda Octavia with the number 2 million was produced at the Vrchlabí plant from the Czech Republic. The anniversary car was a Skoda Octavia Tour 2.0 TDI (the model from the photo below).

The first Skoda Octavia was produced in 1996, and the second generation of the car was launched in 2004. Out of the 2 million cars, 1,315,000 were from the first generation, and 685,000 from the second generation. The first model is still in production, at the same time with the latest model.

Welcome to Skoda Cars, a new blog that will talk only about Skoda models, like Octavia, Fabia, Superb, Felicia, Roomster, and any other concept car or production model that this great company will be launching in the future.

For those curious, I own a black Skoda Octavia 1.6 MPI, that I bought in 2006. Great car, never had any problems with it.
